Researchers warn about risk of AI breaking Bitcoin's encryption
Ethereum researchers, including Justin Drake, have warned that artificial intelligence could break the signatures protecting Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptographic assets "in months, not years" in the worst-case scenario — well before quantum computers arrive. The warning generated intense reactions in the community. The central concern is that AI could compromise cryptographic security much more rapidly than previously expected, leading researchers to suggest that cryptocurrency holders begin preparing for possible risk scenarios. This is relevant to Bitcoin because it touches on one of the fundamental pillars of protocol security: elliptic curve cryptography that protects private keys. Although it is speculation about a future scenario, it is important that the Bitcoin community monitor research on cryptographic security and possible vulnerabilities. https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2026/10/08/bitcoin-and-ether-holders-urged-to-p… https://decrypt.co/380402/morning-minute-ethereum-researcher-says-ai-may-brea… What is your view on this risk? Do you think the Bitcoin community should be preparing for this now?
