Building in public: why your members want to see the messy middle
One of the biggest mistakes community owners make is waiting until something is "perfect" before they share it. You're working on a new feature, a course idea, or a way to improve how things work. Your instinct is to finish it, polish it, then announce it. But by then, you've missed a chance to build something better—and to bring your members along. Here's what happens when you build in public instead: - Members feel like they're part of something real, not just consuming a finished product - You get honest feedback early, when changes are still easy - People invest in the outcome because they helped shape it - Your community feels alive, not static This doesn't mean posting half-baked ideas every day. It means sharing what you're thinking about, asking "what would help you most here?", maybe showing a rough sketch or draft lesson, and actually listening to the answers. A course creator might post "I'm planning lessons on X. What would you want to learn first?" before writing anything. A community owner might say "We're testing a new discussion format—here's how it works, try it this week and tell me what's broken." When members see you working and asking for their input, they stop being an audience. They become collaborators. That's when a community gets strong. You can build and test features right inside your community at https://club.anyza.market—create a private topic, invite a few members, and iterate together. What's something you've been sitting on, waiting to "finish"? What would it look like to share it now instead?
