Your first 10 members: who to invite and how to start strong
The first members of a new community set the tone. They decide whether the place feels alive or empty, whether others will join and stay. So who should you invite first? - People who know you and trust you already. Friends, colleagues, people from your network who get what you're building. - People who will actually show up. Not everyone on your contact list—just the ones who engage, ask questions, or have shown real interest. - A mix of personalities. At least one person who will ask questions, one who will share ideas, one who will help moderate tone and welcome others. Before they arrive, set the stage: - Write a welcome post that explains what the community is for and what you hope people will do there. Keep it short and genuine. - Create your first topic or two so it doesn't feel blank when they land.
